The first day of school was celebrated in Ushpa-Ushpa. The mayor, local representatives, the whole Proyecto Horizonte team, the teachers and several hundred students celebrated the day! From now on, more than 600 children are educated in the eight levels and don’t have to risk the dangerous road to get to the city of Cochabamba.
At the same time we inaugurated the evening-school. We started a program that helps adults to get from a complete lack of schooling, to the Bolivian equivalent of a high school degree, all within five years. There are dozens of reasons why adults didn’t attend or didn’t finish their education in the first place (work, family related, migration, poverty and the list goes on), but the importance of a solid education is obvious to all of them. That is the reason why so many are interested in learning and visiting the evening program.
