We established Proyecto Horizonte in 2004 as a small daycare-center. Since then we have expanded based on our desire to really deliver an impact on the target community. In the year 2006, we developed a Five Year Operational Plan in collaboration with all stakeholders, reflecting their ideas and opinions. This plan helped us evolve from the initial daycare-center to a more integrated community development program. Through the plan and the process of drafting is, we aim to fulfill our vision: “To be a sustainable model which is recognized internationally for its high quality services aimed at eliminating poverty.”
The 2017 Five Year Strategic Plan was developed with participation at a staff and community level. Those working in the organization found it a very enriching and a very important process to continue responding to the challenges within the community. Proyecto Horizonte has had an extremely positive social impact. The living conditions of children and their families have significantly improved. This is through an increase in the availability of health and education for all those in the community and through better employment opportunities.
We have developed 6 core values for our strategic plan:
For each of the areas, we developed specific high-level goals
- Stewardship: increase the involvement of the beneficiaries in decision-making and responsibility sharing to aid the organization’s functioning ability
- Economic Sustainability: diversifying the sources of finances to support the work of the organization
- Strengthening of human resources: our most important resource, the staff, has always made a difference through their social commitment and professionalism, and as an organization we have always shown a great ability to be motivated and work with cohesion
- Positioning: we are proud of the work we do and are keen to share our experiences with interested individuals and organizations
- Growth and impact: our vision is to fight poverty and we want to reach more people, starting with our immediate community and subsequently others. We constantly monitor and demonstrate the positive impact of our work
- Systematization: we will continue to document our work to facilitate day-to-day operations as well as a replications
These strategic areas all have individual goals and the overall vision of the project could not be achieved without the work in each of these areas. The purpose of our planning exercise is to insure the overall vision is laid out in a series of concrete and measurable actions. They insure that all the staff has a clear and concise view of the projects objectives, so as to work in a concise manner. Many of the strategic areas are cross-sectional; each center takes into account the plans which are relevant to them and carries out activities and decisions in relative to their plans.
Through the hard work and commitment to these areas by our staff and partners around the world we will make our dream of equal opportunities for all children and young people a reality.
