We’re doing our bit to clean up Mineros San Juan and to set an example for our neighbors. The south of Cochabamba (where we are) has some serious environmental pollution problems such as the refinery plant, factories, poor sewage treatment and the K’ara K’ara dump – where all of Cochabamba sends their rubbish. These issues are combined with an inadequate rubbish collection service which often forces residents to convert dry river beds into dumps; dumps that they do not realize harm their health and the health of their children. To help combat these problems, raise awareness and educate the community, Proyecto Horizonte is running an anti-litter and personal hygiene campaign with the aim of motivating students and developing habits of cleanliness in the community. With the help of teachers, parents and our psychological unit we have started the campaign with 14 classes at school who are taking part in activities around the separation of garbage, landfill use and personal hygiene.
