This month we are working hard to launch a new health campaign in the community. Diarrhea remains a constant and serious threat to the lives of children here in Ushpa-Ushpa. We will be working with groups of mothers to teach and reinforce the importance of clean hands and clean water.
To get started we will train all 70 staff of Proyecto Horizonte in the SODIS method of water treatment and hygiene, followed by using SODIS treated water in all organizational activities. SODIS takes advantage of the abundant sun in Cochabamba and inactivates microorganisms by UV-A-radiation and thermal treatment in just 6 hours. Our campaign aims to change daily behaviors in the home that will reduce the risks of diarrhea – no small task but we’re ready to get started!
