All volunteer, internship and professional placements are free of charge. For those volunteers who intend to stay with us 3 months or less, we ask that they donate a minimum of USD 150 to Proyecto Horizonte. This donation should ideally come from fundraising efforts in the volunteers´ home community. We can provide you with marketing materials, sample texts and presentations that can help you raise funds for the project. This is an excellent way to create awareness about the work you will be doing and helps spread recognition of Proyecto Horizonte. Those staying longer than 3 months are welcome to raise funds as well, but it is not obligatory as we realize the longer time commitment you are making.
Collecting donations from short-term volunteers provides a complementary source of funding to those provided by private donations. This is integral to keeping the organization sustainable. Also, whilst extremely welcome, short-term volunteers do require a bit more staff time for orientation and help with projects. To offset the additional staff resources needed, we ask that volunteers help us to create a more sustainable program by donating a small sum. The volunteer donations are used to cover operating expenses of the organization. If an excess of USD 150 is donated, the volunteer is able to designate that excess to a specific area or program.
We require donations either be transferred to us before the start of the volunteer placement or provided in cash against a receipt at the beginning of the stay.
